How to create a home for you and your family

How to create a home for you and your family

Every family is unique and has its own needs. That's why it's important to analyze your family's lifestyle at the beginning of each renovation or decoration process.

My approach is to ask you many questions about your lifestyle, such as:

1. Are you a family with:

  • young children
  • older children
  • Do you have a lot of visitors?
  • Do you have pets?

2. I analyze your space

Analyse the spaces shared by all family members:

For the living room :

  • how many persons use the living room daily
  • want to sit comfortably and read
  • often have guests
  • use also for office work
  • want to have open storage / closed storage
  • need a place for TV / console
  • need overnight accommodation
  • ...

For the dining room :

  • how many persons use the dining room daily
  • often have guests
  • if yes, do you sit for long dinners around the dining table
  • do you have a big dining room or small (think about extendable tables)
  • use also for office work
  • want to have open storage  / closed storage
  • ...

For the kitchen :

  • how many persons are cooking in your kitchen
  • are you cooking daily
  • do you need extra place for your food processors
  • want to have open storage  / closed storage
  • want to have a center console
  • want to have bar table with bar stool
  • ...

I don't forget to think about your the terrace or garden

Home3. Feelings

After, we discuss about the feelings you want to create in your home. (e.g. cozy and relaxed, casual, happy, calm or more formal, elegant, timeless... etc.) Including your loved ones here as well.

4. Interior Style

Is there a specific furnishing style that you would like to incorporate? (e.g. modern, rustic, traditional, country, boho, contemporary, minimalist, etc.) Do you perhaps have a certain image of an interior style in mind that you have seen in a magazine or online that has inspired you? If so, what was special about it for you?

5. Choose your preferred colour palate and material

What colors or color palette do you like? Which colours can you imagine in your room? Which materials do you like? (e.g. wood, metals, fabrics...)

6. Budget plan

One thing we do not miss to talk about is, how much you want or can you spend on your project in total? This is an important step !! Do you need professional help? E.g. for the electrics or for water connections? We have to consider to get at least two different quotes.

6. Declutter

Before thinking about buying new furniture or decorative items, you should first declutter. Which furniture, decorative items or other things should and shouldn't be kept. Those pieces that you discard can be sold, so your budget will be a bit better.

7. Schedule your project

We talk about the schedule for your project. Would you like or can you complete all project phases at once depending on your budget? What is your ideal time frame and when would you like to start?
